We write to advise that after 33 years of dedicated service to LAYC, Ian Boardman has decided to retire by taking advantage of Edinburgh Council’s early release scheme which will see him leave Council employment as of the 31st December.

However, Ian has agreed to stay on for a bit longer with LAYC to help the transition and ensure adequate handover arrangements and this will be undertaken on a phased basis. This will see Ian remain as Director through January in a full time capacity and then move to reducing hours before leaving us come the end of March.

Ian will leave LAYC in a very strong position with an experienced and skilled board and staff team, a wide range of quality services and a healthy membership. The board and staff will continue to deliver the work of LAYC and secure the necessary funding to deliver these much needed services and build on the significant legacy that Ian has played a major role in.

However, we are not saying farewell to him just yet but when that time does come we will wish him well for his retirement safe in the knowledge that he will remain a passionate supporter of community based youth and children’s work. We will also keep you posted on plans to celebrate his time at LAYC and his wider contribution to youth work over these many years as we approach his leaving time.

We also have great confidence in our remaining staff team of Graham, Gillian and Laurene and with the Board’s and your help, they will ensure LAYC continues to flourish.

Yours sincerely

Mike Massaro-Mallinson

LAYC Chair
